New Coupon Supplier - Your Coupon Cafe

Can I tell you how excited I am right now????  I have quickly run out of coupons for Triples.  I only have enough coupons for about two more trips, and as most of you know, I make a  HT AT LEAST once a day during SD/Triples.

Anyway - to the good news....

Your Coupon Cafe is my new "supplier" of coupons.  The absolute best thing is that they are local - yes....Winston Salem.  My friend Anita told me about them.  You order your coupons in increments of 10 - which is not a problem for me at all.  If you feel like this is to many for you personally, you could share with a friend.  They have a flat shipping fee of .44. Anita and I combined our orders frequently with other suppliers to save on shipping charges, but for .44 we won't need to!!! Their website is really cute, has a search feature and you are able to view the date that the coupons were published.  What else is there to say - THEY ROCK!!!

I purchased coupons yesterday at 4:03 p.m. and paid via Paypal.  I received a "shipping notice" at 4:54 p.m. yesterday.  This is quick turnaround!!!  I wondered if it would really get into yesterday's mail - that's kind-of late.....but I received the coupons today.  OMG - I am jumping for joy......I know, it's the little things, but I can go shopping tonight!!!! (Sorry DH!)

Check them out....their website is http://www.yourcouponcafe.com/main.sc

Triples Report, Day #1....$130.20 for -$2.19

I debated even writing this post but hopefully it will inspire you, not discourage you.

DH and I were at Harris Teeter at 7:02 a.m. this morning.  My heart fell when I saw a car in the parking lot.  OH NO - Someone beat me into the store!!!!

Anyway, we had list and coupons in had and were ready to go.  We FLEW through the store.  After putting just a couple of items in the cart, he asked me "how much does this cost?"  I said "FREE".  He said "Wow". I stopped, looked and him and said "This ain't your first rodeo, come on." He rolled his eyes and we continued. My goal is to be at the checkout by 7:15/ 7:20 since I am supposed to be at work at 7:30, which is very possible when you already have your qs pulled.  They did not have (couldn't find on the shelf) two of the items I had on the list, so 6 coupons were not utilized from my list.  We filled in with more items/coupons and checked out around 7:25.  Checkout went VERY smoothly - I did not know my total, (I know, I know) but knew that 90% of what I was getting was free so a couple of dollars was my mental total.  As we were walking out, DH wispered to me "Thank you for robbing......ah, I mean shopping at Harris Teeter"

There is a limit of 20 coupons per customer day. I used my card and my Mom's card so DH did one transaction and I did another.

1st Transaction:

3 Lysol Kitchen Cleaner
3 Solo Cups
2 Bandaid Butterfly closure
2 JFG Coffee
3 Jimmy Dean Delights
3 McCormick Vanilla Extracts
2 Pillsbury Crescent Rolls
2 Pillsbury Sweet Rolls
Total Retail Value: 58.53
Paid OOP: $3.76
Got 2.50 On Your Next Order Catalina
Got 2.00 On Your Next Order Catalina
2nd Transaction:
2 Lysol Kitchen Cleaner
2 Solo Cups
1 Coffeemante
3 JFG Coffee
3 Jimmy Dean Delights
3 McCormick Vanilla Extracts
Total Retail Value: 46.17
Paid OOP: 2.74
Got 2.50 On Your Next Order Catalina

Grand Totals:
Total Retail Value: 104.70
Total OOP: 6.50
Cats Received: 7.00
Net: .50 MM

Can I tell how "high" I was all morning.  There are several people at work that get a kick of out of what I do, so I made the rounds sharing the good news.

Also, I was the first to post my deal on afullcup.com.  That made me really proud as well.  I get most of my deals from there....without them, figuring things out would take a lot more time!!!
I also did a quick run at lunchtime and got the following:

3 McCormick Vanilla Extracts
1 Jimmy Dean B'fast item
1 pkg Solo Cups
2 Vitamin Waters (free qs from Facebook)
2 Skinny Waters
Total Retail Value: $24.40
Total OOP: $.81
Catalinas received: $2.50
$1.69 Money Maker

I am quickly running out of coupons (I know - say it isn't so!!!)  BUT - a co-worker/coupon friend found a coupon clipping service that ships from right here in Winston Salem (thanks Anita!!!). I ordered them at about 4:30 and they were shipped, so hopefully I will receive them in 1-2 days.  The site is: Your Coupon Cafe, Link: Your Coupon Cafe.

A couple of points.  The reason that I am there the first day when "my" store opens (Robinhood Village) is that I want to make sure that I get the free/cheapest/most wanted items.  That is the only guarantee that this will happen.  HT tries VERY hard to keep items in stock, but when you have hundreds of stores that are all participating in Triples, the warehouse get depleted very quickly.  Plus, there is a strong chance that it will get restocked, but will you be there at the right time - the day the truck comes in and within a few hours of when the items get restocked?  It's frustrating chasing the item and getting the timing just right.

Good Luck to you all and let me know if you have any questions!!!

Good Deals for Triples - Updated 3/25/10

Here are my top pics for triples.  I have confirmed that the Winston Salem, Greensboro area received these coupons.  As I add to the list, I will post in different colors.

If you get impatient and want to go to afullcup.com, they will have a thread where everyone tells what great deals they got during triples.  Keep in mind that our area may not have gotten the coupons that other people use, but, if you really want the coupon, you can order it.  There are several sites I order from....couponclippingcrew and Dale Kilburn. Email him at cdktracers@yahoo.com.  Also, if you want a lot of a certain coupon, you can order off of ebay.

Great Deal on Makeup at Rite Aid This Week

There are different levels of happiness with couponing.

  1. Wow - that was a great deal!
  2. OMG I can't believe I only paid $X and got all of THAT stuff!
  3. I am out of "X" and really need it.  The Choir of Angels chime in (almost deafening you) as you discover that it's on sale AND have a coupon!  This is pure bliss, eyes roll back in your head, better than a bowl of your favorite icecream happiness.
With all of the deals that I get, it is VERY rare that I am out of something.  However, the family has become a bit of a snob.  That is the only downfall about couponing....you get a fantastic deal on an item and sometimes you will never get that deal again.  They become "fond" of a particular item/brand and you are up the creek when they are totally out of it an need it now.  As a couponer, I would rather bleed than have to purchase something not on sale (even with a coupon).  Enough of the drama.....I am at level #3 now, here's why.....

I knew about, and already purchased, four Covergirl items at Rite Aid this week (BOGO using the BOGO q from 2/7 P&G).  Good job, way to go.  However, (and of course AFTER I did the deal), Rachel tells me that she needs mascara and concealer.  There is a certain kind of mascara that she wants - happens to be Cover Girl and I have more BOGO coupons - not a problem (that was a close one). I also read about an Almay deal today.  They are bogo (eye products only), use the $2 coupon (2/7 SS) and you can get them very inexpensively. Combine both of these deals together and add a $5/20 coupon and it's a REAL deal.

Here is what I did:

2 Covergirl at 8.99
2 Covergirl at 8.19
1 Almay at $7.49
1 Almay at $6.99
Plus Tax: $1.52
Subtotal: $50.36
Sale:
Deduct $8.99 for bogo item
Deduct $8.19 for bogo item
Deduct 6.99 for bogo item
Coupons:
Used $5/20 = -$5.00
Used CG bogo q = -8.99
Used CG bogo q = -8.19
Used 2 $2 off Almay = -4.00
Grand Total:  .01 (OMG - I have NEVER been this close to zero, without going under before!!!)

The cherry on the big bowl of my favorite icecream:  I get a $5 rebate on the Almay.

As you coupon and get better at it you will have different levels of coupon happiness. Your patterns of buying will also change.  Just when you think you are at the highest level, the Coupon Gods (in Missy's Coupon Land, where all of your coupon dreams come true) shine their ray of light, showing us that there is even more out there than we could've imagined.  I need more makeup like a need a hole in the head, but in order to do this deal and get the rebate, I had to purchase the Almay.  I always keep in mind my friends/family's colors so that I can share with them.

Here's the pic of my small loot (sorry the pic is the wrong way - too tired to care tonight)

Disclaimer:  I did not have a glass of wine before I wrote this post.  I do not believe in the Coupon Gods (maybe just a little).  I hope you found this entertaining and not offensive.

So....I'm not the only crazy one

For all of you who think I'm coupon crazy, think again.  There was an article in the Wall Street Journal today entitled "Hard Times Turn Coupon Clipping Into the Newest Extreme Sport".  What a great title!!! Don't you feel like it's a sport when you are sweating as you leave the store, especially after Super Doubles or Triples?

The article mentions a shopper not clearing the shelf, and only purchasing 30.  HA! - to a non-couponer I'll bet that's a lot.

Enough of my opinion about the article - here is the link so you can read it for yourself.

You cannot use a coupon to pay for tax, hence the filler.
Total:  Will be approximately the amount of the filler plus tax on all of the above.
Give them the coupons in the order above.  If you give them the bogo q., the register will only recognize two of the items, not 3 and will only give you credit for two with the in-ad q. not the full $5.01.

K-Mart Super Doubles April 4-10

Do you hear the echo of the choir of Angels??  Just a faint echo, that's all.  Before I give you the scoop, let me tell you a little story.

There was once a Mom/Wife that that had about 2 months under her belt at learning/mastering the art of couponing.  She was a tiny bit organized: She had her coupons filed in her binder and her notebook and calculator in the store, but that's about it. She didn't know that she had to be there the first day of the K-Mart's Super Doubles, and as a result lost out on a lot of great deals.  At that time, K-Mart did not limit the number of coupons that you could use and would double up to $2.00.  They even gave you a $5 off $50 if you signed up to receive their ads via email. There were basically no limits......

Times have changed and it's 2010.

I emailed corporate earlier today and asked them if our area was having Super Doubles.  The promptly replied:

Dear Missy,

Thank you for contacting Kmart regarding the Kmart Double Coupon Event. We appreciate your interest in this promotion. This event is for select participating Kmart locations from 4/4-4/10. All of our NC stores are participating in the current event.

Two schools of thought on this.....5 coupons - really...REALLY!!!!  I have more than 5 coupons in my coat or jeans pocket on any/most given days!!!  really.....    I live about 15-18 miles from the two closest K-Marts.  I am confident my husband is smarter than to believe that I want to go to either of these areas for dinner or a "quick" errand....he's got me figured out.
The other thought is kuddos for K-Mart to reply to my email so quickly AND to provide me with the details up front.  That's a BIG kuddos for them.  Knowing the "rules of the game" is essential, especially when you have to drive 15 miles for 5 items/coupons.

Coupon Inserts for 3/7/10

There will be three inserts in this Sunday's paper.... Smart Source, Red Plum and Procter and Gamble.

No confirmation on dates yet, but I heard a rumor of triples at Harris Teeter in March.  I will keep you updated!!! These coupons will really come in handy!

Stop making excuses!!!!

There is a great article that I ran across on Money Saving Mom's blog.  It is titled "31 Days to a Better Grocery Budget: Stop Making Excuses and Commit to Change".  I highly recommend you read this, as well as the comments that people have made.  It will really give you a kick in the pants.

I have been couponing for a little over a year and could never imagine not doing it.  It's like my hobby/part time job.  It pays WAY more than any part time job ever would.

Savings for February 2010

I wanted to let you guys know my savings for February.  A few notes before I announce my totals.  I chose not to include clothes this time.  I did several mystery shops and my fees from that washed out the expense of the clothes.

It seems that we ate more fresh veges and yogurt this month. I tried very hard (and think I succeeded) in not purchasing items that I already had tons of and that were not donatable.  I have enough laundry detergent to last me for about 6-8 months (depending on how much I give to others), so $1.25 for detergent is not that great of a deal anymore.

Donations:  My goal at the end of January that I was going to do a better job of keeping track of what I donated in February.  I did not write anything down, but am going off of memory.
  • I had a friend that moved and needed some necessities, so I gave her 22 bags of food/health and beauty stuff and cleaning supplies.  Her 8 year old asked why I had a store in my basement.
  • I gave a friend 6 packs of diapers.
  • Took cleaning wipes, baby wipes and tissues to the church nursery.
  • I had two classes and had a drawing at each of those ($50-$75 retail value at each).
  • Gave various items to our church's food pantry (rice, crackers, juice, soup, peanut butter, lotion and various other items for the senior care boxes).
Also, for the month of January I did not have a "budget".  I had no clue how much I was spending out of pocket.  In February I guessed at $250 for my budget, but went a tiny bit over, which I am happy with.  I didn't think I could come close.

Also, I spent about $10 purchasing coupons in the month of February.

Okay, now for my totals:

Retail Value:  $1,398.00
Coupon Savings: $715.00
Sale Savings: $429.00
Total Out of Pocket: $254
Savings Rate: 81.87%

I just might go crazy and list $200 for the month of March.  Why not!?!?!

Goals for March?   I will continue to donate as I did in February and also try to come up with different recipes in order to use up some of the meat in my freezer.  Also, I will have 1-2 beginner coupon classes and at least one advanced (free, of course).
