Extreme Couponing show on TLC

Just in case you missed the boat (which is certainly not the case if you read my blog).....

COUPONING is the new BLACK

TLC has a new show, "Extreme Couponing" that airs on Wednesday nights.

My Mom tries desperately to "get one over on me".  She is constantly letting me know deals and always asks "Did you know that?" My answer is usually yes, but I didn't know about this one.  She not only gets the designated amount of "points" for this notification, but they are doubled.  We were out and about and my slingbox wouldn't record this - she recorded it for me.

THANKS MOMMIE DEAREST!!!

Olay body wash at Dollar General

Clip your $2 Olay coupon from the 12/26 P&G and go to Dollar General to score some free Olay body wash.  It's the smaller bottle, 8.4 ozs, but not too shabby for free!!! It was marked as $3 on the shelf, but is on sale for $2.

I purchased 6 bottles and paid .93 after coupons.

It's a great way to end the year....FREEEE.

Drug Store deals for the week of 12/19/10 - 12/25/10

BOLO (be on the lookout) for clearanced HBA items.  January is usually the time to find makeup, lotion and shampoo/conditioner on clearance, but it seems to be earlier this year. I don't clip a coupon unless I am "doing a deal", but this is the time of year that I clip most of my HBA coupons just in case I run across a clearance item. I found some great items yesterday at Rite Aid on clearance.  Some were Clearasil items..... with the in-ad coupon AND my coupon, they were free!!! Also, they had Nivea and Keri lotion and Olay facial lotions/cleaners on clearance. Cover Girl items were also on clearance.  The 11/28 P&G has $1 and $2/2 coupons making them really inexpensive!!

Is it really worth the fight?

To argue or not to argue - that's the question.

Let me set the scene for it.
You could be at home, sitting in the recliner, drinking hot chocolate and catching up on your soaps, but no.....your coupon conscious mind made you get in the car and actually "do" your deals - you know, the ones that you wrote down in your handy dandy notebook (can I tell you how many times I have written my deals down, pulled the coupons and DIDN'T do the deal!!! ARGH!!!) You have made it to the store, spent too much time shopping and got to the register only to hit a snag. You have three choices at this point.  Give in and purchase the items without the coupons (which I DO NOT recommend), walk away and leave everything there (which I have done before) or F I G H T.
Normally, I do not argue with cashiers.  I feel that they are only "saving" their behinds from getting chewed out and/or loosing their jobs when they tell me that I cannot use a coupon.  However, there are times that I will argue up and down, especially when I KNOW that I am right, and well within their coupon policy....there's something about listening to Miranda Lambert in the car on the way to the store that will motivate you to stand up for what you know is right - even if it's only a coupon!!! Plus, you will have a good story to tell your coupon friends - trust me when I say that your family won't appreciate it - so don't waste your breath!
All of this, only to re-direct to you to another blog.  But wait - it's totally worth it.  Melanie, from The Coupon Goddess blog, had an interesting experience and blogged about it.  She's actually the reason that I started this blog.  She is my inspiration and I aspire to write more like her......but until that happens, visit her at http://www.thecoupongoddess.com/ . I can guarantee you will loose time there.  The first time I visited it, I couldn't stop reading!!

Enjoy!

Great deal on local produce - delivered to your door!

It seems these days that the new "black" in the money saving world are websites that sell discounted deals/gift certificates.

Restaurant.com has been around for a while, but there are several new websites....

I have mentioned Groupon to you before in this post: Groupon.
I purchased gift certificates to Ben and Jerry's, Nobles, Ryan's and Cafe Press (for a photo on canvas) and have been very happy.

Also, there is a housewares site that has various deals: Housewares

There is a new one that my friend Sue forwarded me via email today.  It is called "Living Social", Link: LS
It appears to be very similiar to Groupon. I copied the blurb below directly from their website:

How It Works

When you see a deal that tickles your fancy, here's what to do:
  • BUY. Get in on the deal of the day
  • SHARE. If 3 of your friends buy the same deal using your link, you get your deal for FREE
  • WAIT. Your deal will be ready to print within 1 business day
  • PRINT. Follow the instructions on your deal to redeem it
  • SAVE. Enjoy your favorite spots around town at huge discounts
Today's deal for Living Social is fresh local produce. You pay $10 and get $24 worth of produce.  There is a one-time fee of $5, but if you "Like" them on Facebook, you will get an additional $1 off this deal. They deliver directly to your door.  Check them out by following this link: LS

A couple of deals - Don't miss out on these!!!

Sometimes the small deals are the absolute best, and this week is certainly the case.  I love these deals because it took 2 minutes to pull and clip the coupons and it will take less than five minutes in the store.

The first deal comes from my coupon friend/co-worker Anita.  I taught her to coupon but she keeps me on my toes - keeping me informed of things that I might have missed.  I used to know EVERY deal that she shared with me, but I know NONE of them now.  She is certainly on top of her game!

CVS has some of their Loreal makeup on sale for 75% off.  Use the $5.00/2 ior $2.00/1 coupon from the 11/14 Red Plum.
= VERY inexpensive makeup - STOCKPILE PRICES!!!

My coupon friend Colleen told me about this one in the hall at church on Sunday (MAN I love this method of communication - quick and to the point!)  I like to think of myself as the coupon queen, but have to share the "tiara" sometimes - It's all yours today Colleen!!! You are the Coupon Barbie!

Food Lion:
Toblerone bars (my absolute favorite) are BOGO at .99 ea.  There is a $1.00/2 coupon from 11/21 Smart Source making them FREE.  I stopped in before work today and picked them up.  There's nothing like a good coupon deal to start the week off right!

The next deal comes from one of my new coupon friends, Tonya.   She is fairly new at couponing. We sat down together, along with her daughter Jessica and shared ideas.  It amazes me how she has been couponing a short time, without a computer, without a coupon "class" and has learned so quickly.  She treats it like a game and makes it really fun.  She is new at using the computer and still learning, so for now devotes her Sunday afternoons to matching up the deals with the flyers from Sunday's paper.  She is one of those "clip it all" people, but it works for her as she shops for her enitre family, as well as her church's food pantry.   Anyway, we were talking yesterday afternoon and she reminded me of a deal at Dollar General.

Dollar General:
3 cans of Libby's veges for $1.00 with in-ad coupon (Sunday - Tuesday only). Use the $1.00/3 coupon from the 8/29 Red Plum.
= FREE Veges!!!
Per their online coupon policy, you are allowed to use a store coupon with a mfg. coupon.
Coupon Policy: DG Q policy (you might want to print a copy and take it with you)

One last "don't miss" deal....
Hallmark has a $10 off $10 coupon on their website, Link: HMark
You must show your Gold Crown card.  If you don't have one, visit their website and sign up.  It's free.

Normally, I bring attention to ONLY the best deals. This week, I am listing the best deals as well as the good/okay deals. For example, us stockpilers do not pay for frozen veges, but if you are not a stockpiler and need these items for Thanksgiving, .57 is a good deal (HT).

I am, however, taking the easy way out this week with various turkey deals.  Before you purchase your turkey, visit the grocery store's website and check out the prices.  This is the one time of year that I go all out and order my organic, free range, fresh turkey (the turkey that's never been told no, as my husband likes to say)  from Whole Foods.

It's that time of the year - Timeline Season!!

Congratulation Martha - You have made it on to my blog!!!

Being the Martha Stewart wanna-be that I am, for several years now, I have created timelines for events that are upcoming, especially those that require me preparing food. How do you think Martha makes it look so easy on T.V.???? She has a boatload of "helpers" that have scripts to follow - probably more helpers than Santa has elves!! Since I only have two helpers in my house (darn good helpers, let me say), I must get started early and be very organized.

My family gets a real kick out of my timelines (especially my SIL, who actually takes the timeline with her to work to show them how crazy I am).

My personal "Superbowl" is Thanksgiving.  I create a timeline with the following information:
Menu
Shopping List (this has a timeline within itself)
Timeline for cooking:
  Two days before
  One day before
  Day of

I also have the cleaning timeline which includes making sure the Thanksgiving linens are clean and pressed.  But, before THAT can happen, colors must be determined.  What color/theme will it be this year?  Can you understand why my family gets such a kick out of this??? I will not torture you any longer, but get directly to the point.

Planning = Saving
This is a loaded phrase, but in this particular situation, I am specifically talking about planning what groceries you will need for the holidays.  Take about half an hour and make a list of your menus (Thanksgiving Dinner, Christmas B'fast, Christmas Dinner, etc.). From that list, you can create a list of ingredients that you need.  I like to make my list on the computer so that I can just update it the next year (the holiday ARE about traditions you know).   Not only do you save a lot of money by purchasing these items on sale you also spread the cost out over the course of a month or more. You are also able to enjoy the family/events instead of constantly running to the store because you forgot something.

That's my 2 cents worth on timelines.  I hope you find this helpful!

Aldi, week of 11/3 - 11/9 and Ronnie's Country Store

Aldi is kicking some major butt this week with their lower-than-normal prices. I used to shop a lot a Aldi before couponing, but they do not accept coupons.

They do have some great prices on milk, eggs and other essentials, but this week is exceptionally good:

10 lb bag Russet Potatoes, $1.99
Del Monte Gold Pineapple, $1.49
Baby Carrots 16 oz. Bag .49

Broccoli Crowns, 16oz. .75/lb
Happy Harvest canned veges .39
Chef's Cupboard Stuffing Mix, .69

I try my best to buy local produce and visit the farmer's market at the Dixie Classic fairgrounds during the summer, but in the winter, Ronnie's Country Store is my go-to place.  I purchase most of my fruits/veges there for Thanksgiving and Christmas meals.  They are local - NC, SC and sometimes GA. They have country ham in the back of the store that is sliced to order.  Also, they have fatback (for the collards that I don't eat), barrels of beans and barrels of candy.  Can't beat it!! AND their prices are great.

Super Doubles Total - First Day

The Coupon Goddess was on my side this morning for the first Super Doubles shopping trip.  Hubby went with me to do a transaction.  As we were pulling into the parking lot, he asked if I had knots in my stomach and you know what my answer was!!!  There were two cars ahead of me, one pulled off to go to McDonald's and the other one stayed straight, but kept on going.  We were first in the store (doesn't really matter - but it makes me feel better).

I had my list and coupons ready and we were off to the races.  Two of my favorite Customer Service managers were there so I was REALLY excited.  (You know it's bad when you go in to see who is working and hug them because it's been soooo long since you've seen them!)

Everything went as planned and my totals were good.  I was able to get everything that I wanted that I knew would go fast.  Below are my totals for both transactions:

Retail value: $135.64
Vic Savings: $46.08
Coupons Tendered: $84.83
Total OOP:  $4.73
AND I got a $3 OYNO catalina
Net:  $1.73
Saved 98.7%

I am still high as a kite!!!  I hope you shopping trips go well.  I will share my Coupon Goddess with you....

Drug Store deals for the week of 10/31- 11/6

Sorry for another week of half-effort on the drug store front, but we are in the process if sprucing up our kitchen.  My junk drawer and silverware drawer threw up all over my kitchen table, so until that gets cleared off (if ever), this is all the effort that I am able to put in this week.  Plus, I want to save a little time for the all-important SUPER DOUBLES list for Harris Teeter.

A couple of pointers:
  • As you cruise through the sales paper and see something that interests you, wondering if you have a coupon for "that", go to afullcup.com or couponmom.com.  They have a great coupon query feature.  Our area may not have gotten the particular coupon, so keep that in mind while you are looking.
  • Visit one of the blogs on the right on my main blog page. They have some great lists for this week.
