Grocery Store Pics for the week of 2/24/10

Boy am I glad that Super Doubles are over at Harris Teeter.  With that being said, here are the grocery store matchups for this week.

Red Seedless grapes are .99/lb
Cantaloupes are $1.79 ea.
3 lb bag of tangerines are $2.99

Value Pack Ground Chuck is $1.88/lb
There are also several other items on sale in the meat dept. that may be a good deal using the $1 FLIP.  Leave a comment and let me know if you stumble across something.

Food Lion canned veges are .33 each.  This is a stockpile price.

Michelina's Entrees are .86 each (frozen).  This is a great price if you pack frozen dinners for lunch.  Check afullcup.com's coupon database.  There are several Internet Printables there, $1 off 5 - would make them .66 ea.

Split Chicken Breast are .77/lb.  This is a stockpile price.
Porterhouse or T-Bone Steaks are $4.99
HT All Natural Boneless Cut Pork Chops are 50% off

Gallon HT milk is $2.77

Fiber One Yogurt is bogo at $1.47 ea, use $1 IP = .47.  Link: http://bricks.coupons.com/Start.asp?bt=wi&tqnm=qlpedjc82218243&o=57799&ci=1&c=GM&p=ioYvTPUl
Pillsbury Crescent Dinner Rolls are on sale for .99.  This is an excellent price.  They are usually on sale for $1.66.  Use the .25/1 or .50/2 =
.49 ea.
Final Final Price: FREE

Rold Gold Pretzels are 50% off at $1.49 ea.  This is a great price.  They are normally on sale for $2. This is DH's favorite snack! Yipee!!!
Cheetos and Fritos as also 50% off.

E-Vic Special:
Martha White Muffin Mix .50 (limit 1). Regular price is $1.15.  Purchase 2, use the .55/2 from 2/14 RP = .55 for two mixes.

Green Giant Frozen Boxed Veges are $1 each, use the .60/3 q from 2/21 Smart Source = .60 ea. This is not a stockpile price, but a decent one.

Not much going on at Lowes Foods this week, but there are a couple of things:

Nature's Own White Wheat Bread is $1.19

This has expired.  I think the last day was 2/28. Sorry!! (Don't feel bad, I procrastinated and did not take advantage of this either.)
On E-Offers, there is a coupon for .75 off No Yolk Egg Noodles, extra broad or dumplings, which cost $1.79 ea.  Use the .75 q from 2/21 Smart Source = FREE
This might cause overage - it's hard to tell.  Be prepared to grab a candy bar or a gift card if  happens and this is the only item that you are purchasing.

Not familiar with E-Offers?  Go to lowesfoods.com and click on E-Offers at the bottom of the page.  Follow the instructions to enter your Lowes Foods card number.  Click on the various coupons to add them to your card.  Why not add them all?  You never know when you might randomly purchase one of these items.  Wouldn't it be a bonus to have an electronic coupon attached to it?

Have a great week!!!

Three inserts for Sunday, February 21, 1020

I usually don't post the coupon preview because it can be frustrating when the preview shows a coupon that our area did not get.  BUT, with SDs going on at HT, and since I preach about planning, I am going to post them.  Actually, I am going to refer you to Honoring the King's website, Link: http://honoringtheking.blogspot.com/2010/02/221-coupon-inserts.html

I Heart Harris Teeter - and their people!!!

This week is exceptionally great because of Super Doubles, but also because of the people.  Here is the experience that I had during my afternoon trip.

I roll in to my Robinhood Village HT and see my favorite former CS Manager Chris in the parking log (he's at another store now, but he comes back to visit). He says he'll catch up with me. I go in the store and chat with produce girl Jennifer - she's had the last few days off and I haven't seen her. I start making my way around the store and Chris catches up with me, just after another CS manager gives me a hug because it's been a while since we've seen each other. Gets the items off the shelf for me, waits patiently as I run into a couple of my coupon friends who asks me a few questions about the deals. He compliments me on my knowledge of the deals (sorry - tooting my own horn there for a sec.). I give one of my coupon friends' husband (who happens to be the store manager at "my" Walgreens) my Cole's garlic bread and coupons because they are having steak and he didn't know about the deal. As I talk, Chris goes to get me more Cole's. We make it up to the front and they are busy. He pulls my cart to U-Scan and rings me out, helps the cashier scan my coupons and makes sure everything is correct. He walks me out to my car and loads up my groceries. ALL on his own time. I had my own Harris Teeter Concierge. I felt like a queen. I am married and he doesn't swing that way anyway, so my husband is not jealous when I talk on and on about Chris. You should be very proud Chris, you made my blog (and my day for that matter).

Life in "Missy's Coupon Land, where all your coupon dreams come true" could NOT get any better. AND - this is only day 2!!!

A couple of notes - my Mom and Dad send me qs from Cary and Charlotte and a co-worker give me her qs from family that lives in Ohio, so I had qs that we did not receive in our papers.  There does not seem to be as much stuff/coupons that are a great deal this go around.  I usually go twice the first day, then once a day for the duration of the sale.  I have enough qs to go only twice more at the most.  Still not complaining. We got some great donation items and icecream. Can't go wrong with the icecream!!!

Good luck everyone!

Harris Teeter's Super Doubles List for 2/17

Below is my personal list of items for Super Doubles beginning on 2/17.  See Southern Savers for an all-inclusive list, Link: http://www.southernsavers.com/2010/02/harris-teeter-super-double-217/

FYI - as most of you know, I always confirm that our area received the coupon before I post ANY deal on this blog.  However, be forewarned that we may have not gotten all of the coupon that Souther Savers refers to (don't be too disappointed).  Keep in mind that you can order coupons from Ebay and/or couponclippingcrew.

Dole Crushed Pineapple small cans are .67 ea, use the $1/3 q from 1/24 SS = Free
Activia Yogurt is $2.50, use $1 q from 1/10 SS or 2/7 SS = .50 ea
Edys Icecream is $2.97 ea, use $1 q from 1/31 SS = .97
Johnson Baby Powder (donate to food pantry for baby boxes) is $1.79, use $1 q from 1/3 RP = FREE

Grande Chips are $3 (so sad, during last SD, they were $2.50), use $1 q from 1/10 SS = $1.00

As you can see, I have focused on the free/cheapest items.  They will get gone the quickest and possibly not be restocked.

Good luck and let me know if you have any questions.  Also, if there are any great deals that you discover, please leave a comment and I'll add it to the list.

February 14 Coupon Inserts

I have heard a nasty rumor that there will be no coupon inserts on 2/14, which doesn't surprise me because we usually do not get inserts on a holiday.  However,  I have heard from a better source that there will be an insert.

At the least, we will get one Red Plum.  It's possible that we will also get a Smart Source as well, but that has not been confirmed.

Wags Friends and Family Discount - Friday, February 12

Several times a year, Walgreens has a "Friends and Family" discount day/days.  They are having one Friday, February 12, one day only.  With the coupon, you will get 15% off your order, or 20% off Walgreens brand items. Here is the link to the coupon: http://www.walgreens.com/topic/promotion/ff021210.jsp?ban=flh1_h_dts

Make sure you go to Cosmetics or Photo to check out.  In times past, only those registers were programmed to accept this coupon.  Also, tell them about the coupon in the beginning, before they starting ringing anything up.

Don't kick yourself if you have already purchased a lot at Wags this week (diapers/Dove's Mencare/denture adhesive that you don't use).  Yes, you could've saved an additional 15% if you waited, but you cannot be 100% confident that the items would be in stock on Friday.  It's truly a gamble.

See below some highlited deals:

Grocery Store Pics for week of 2/10/10 - Update

Not much going on at Food Lion this week.  With that being said, there is a possible good deal in the deli section.  There is a new FLIP for $1 off $5 in the deli section.  Use the pre-MVP price to get to your $5 and get an even better deal.  It expires on 2/23, which is great because personally, I am not interested in their deli sale this week.  They have the Food Lion Turkey Breast or Ham on sale for $3.99/lb, regularly $5.49/lb. You could purchase a lb. and your total price would be about $2.99 for a lb. Maybe the Roast Beef will be on sale next week!!!
Here is the link to the FLIP: http://www.4shared.com/file/219198847/54c255ff/1_off_5_in_deli.html

Wags Diaper Scenario for week of 2/7 - Update!!!

They "fixed" it and it is no longer rolling.

Huggies is rolling. Rolling: When you purchase an item and receive register rewards (RRs) and you purchase the same item and use the RRs that you just received and it prints out more RRs.  Usually this does not happen, but it is this time.  However, your out of pocket is still less when you "rock" back and forth between the Dove Men's Body Wash and the Huggies.

Another update:  The Children's Activity Book Code is not working.  If you have the coupon in front of you, you can ask that they override it or call a manager, but you have no case if you do not have the coupon.

I did the transactions below today and thought it was a great deal.

A quick lesson regarding register rewards (RR).  You have to have an item that you have not used a manufacturer's coupon on in order to use your RR. Look at scenerio #2.  The bodywash has a mfg. coupon of $1.25 or $1.50, so, in order to use your RR, you have to purchase a filler.  It does not matter the price.  Either purchase something that you need that you do not have a coupon for or choose something inexpensive.  Some good fillers this week are:
Valentine Pencil W/Eraser Topper 5/$1.00 (use in-ad coupon to get this price)

Eggs = .99

Wags Foil, 20' = .59 with in-ad q
Reeses Hearts = .50
Disney Coloring/Activity Pads 3/$1 with in-ad q

Note about the Children's Activity Book.  This is a Wags published book and is very difficult to find.  It cost .99 and is well worth it.  There are Wags coupons, which can be combined with mfg. coupons in this book.  As with all Wags coupons, you can keep the coupon and do not have to give them to the cashier.  They are 4-digit codes and the cashier enters the code.  The cash register takes off the value of the coupon for every items purchased.  There is a $1 Huggies coupon in the Children's Activity Book.  Simply tell the cashier that you want to use the coupon in the Children's Activity Book and it is 2035.  Hopefully you won't have a problem.  You might want to double check before you do your shopping.

Another few suggestions:
  • Prepare at home
  •   Print out this blog post and make any corrections, taking it with you and following it exactly.
  •   Pull your coupons, put them in order and number them in the order of the transactions that you are       going to do.
  • Pay with cash.  It's a pain to swipe your card that many times.
  • Ask if it is okay to do multiple transactions.  You might want to even go to 2-3 stores as to not wipe the shelves clean and not make the cashiers mad.
  • Donate the items that you don't use (Super Poligrip).  Senior Services is located behind the coliseum and it is VERY easy to drop items off there.
Good luck and let me know if you have any questions!!!

X-Rain Vision and a man's mission to please his wife

On the way home from eating at Mi Pueblo tonight, the family stopped by Food Lion.  As you know, I have issues with the one closest to my house, so we went to another one that was on our way home.  Husband remembered that the icecream that he so dearly loves was going off of bogo today and wanted to get some more.  Believe it or not, this trip was not my idea - but I was benefiting from it.  I sent a text a few weeks ago to get a free Canada Dry or 7 Up when I scan my MVP card and as we usually don't drink this, it comes in  handy if someone in the house gets sick.  Free is free and the last day was today!!

We are walking in the parking lot and I see a catalina floating in a puddle of water.  I glance at it and see $1.50 off......blah blah blah......Food Lion Brand Sale.  I assume it is a catalina that is advertising their sale this week.  I keep walking - it's in a puddle of water for goodness sake.

The husband saw it and picked it up to investigate.  He so graciously presented it to me, dripping in parking lot juice.  I looked at it, looked at it again, and sure enough it had the wonderful words "off your next purchase" AND it had a barcode on it.   SCORE!!!!  That would really help with the icecream that I had no coupon for.  He is helping pay his way....

Secured the icecream for husband and two TINY B&J icecreams for Rachel.  As they were picking them out, I was looking through the clearance items and SCORE again!!!  They had the scrubbing bubbles refill pads for the tub scrubber.  This is an item that I normally would not buy, but last summer I received some free from Vocalpoint and they absolutely rock.  I have used all of the scrubby pads, but still have the base that they attach to.  They were on clearance for $1.25, normally $3.29 and I had my .75 qs, making them .50 ea.  I could not pass that deal up!!!
Total Stats:
Shelf Price:  $18.59
Sale Savings: $8.82
Coupon Savings: $5.08

Grand Total:  $5.04

Moral of the story:
  • Be aware of your surroundings
  • Take your husband shopping with you -especially when he puts in a special request
  • It's okay to look down every once in a while, especially in a grocery store parking lot - juice or no juice.

Who says you can't save $ on healthy items!?!?!

January 2010 Savings

I have been tracking what I have spent/saved during the month of January 2010 and thought I would share it with you.

My spending includes:  Groceries, HBA (Health and Beauty Aids) and items for the house (specifically for January, rugs).

What is not included: gas for my car, clothes/shoes and lunches out (usually once a week).

The "shelf cost": $1,901
The savings from shopping the sales: $776
Coupon savings: $810
Total Spent Out of Pocket: $315 for a savings of 83.43%
In addition, I spent $20.38 on Sunday papers/extra coupons from Coupon Clipping Crew for the month.

A few thought about January.....I was able to stockpile some items that I was getting low on, such as rice, snacks, frozen veges and convenience foods (stuff for lunches when I don't have leftovers).  Most of these items were not necessary, and without a sale/coupons I wouldn't have purchased them, but when you are paying pennies on the dollar, it's silly not to.

We did not eat a ton of fresh fruits/veges, but when I found them in the "day old" bin, I purchased them - for example, a large bag of mushrooms were 0.50.  Normally, that amount would have been about $6. We eat banannas regularly and I splurge with an avacado or two every other week - but at .69, it's worth it.

We had icecream and milk in the house at all times, as well as yogurt for the last two weeks of the month.

Donations:
I didn't specifically track the items - maybe that'll be my goal for next month.  I gave over 20 bags to a friend in need and 6 bags to yet another friend.  I stocked the nursery at church with cleaning wipes, baby wipes and tissues.  I have 3-4 paper grocery bags of items that are going to my church's foods pantry.  I had 3 giveaways, 2 at my coupon classes and one for the "1,000 views" on the blog. I also shared some of the .25 Special K cereal with a co-worker.

With all of this being said - this was a slow month in purchases and donations.  I have been couponing for a little over a year and realized how unnecessary some items are.  Previously, I would purchase items for donations and sometimes spend .50-.80 in tax.  Now, my goal is to spend no more than .25, which is very doable.  If the item is not a necessity, and/or we don't use it, I do not purchase it unless it is a moneymaker.

Shopping trips in January:
This month was full of "run-ins" and not very many time consuming shopping trips.  I can knock out a superdoubles/triples trip at HT in about 30 minutes, spending $5-$10 for $50+ worth of items.  When they roll around, I go daily.  There were a lot of 5 minute shopping trips, running in to get 8-10 items (mostly duplicates).  I am very fortunate to work/live within a few miles of all of the grocery and drug stores.

Focus for February:
I am down to two bottles of hairspray, so that is definately at the top of my list. I will also be focusing on fresh fruit/produce.  I will also be reducing my purchases in general for our family.  When a great sale comes along, I will order specific coupons from the Coupon Clipping Crew.  Our church's food pantry is getting started and I am assisting with that, so maybe my shopping will increase after all!
